Multi-camera views of aerobatics in a homebuilt Sonex experimental. Watch for the occasional smoke trails. Thought I was going to get sick watching it!

  • Awesome video! And awesome plane! I am hoping to be able to build a Sport Acro - with a single center mounted stick so it can be flown like a single-seater when soloing - in the near future. What engine does you Sonex have? How do you like the AvMap GPS w/WX? Better than a Garmin for the money? Once again, awesome video and really cool airplane.

  • Jabiru 3300 - gotta have it!

AvMap w/MX is awesome. Graphical metars and radar make cross country flying wonderful... I will NEVER fly long XC without XM weather EVER again. Period. Too crucial, too important - awesome knowing what's ahead and making good decisions & major changes based on real conditions...

Anyway - THANKS for the compliment... You are right - It is WICKED COOL.

    :)

  • Thanks for the video. Quick question- is it possible to perform acro with 2 persons on board in Sonex? Thank you!

  • Umm, err... uh... UN-officially speaking - Absolutely Yes - it's built & rated like a tank and has been done by experienced pilots constantly in the Sonex without a hint of an issue or concern. But Officially - uhh... well... kind of sort of No?

  • Thank you for your reply. If you don't mind me asking, where are you based at? I'm interested in buying Sonex (have no time to build myself), but I'd love to talk in person to the experienced flier and take a close look at the similar plane before moving forward, if you don't mind, of course. Thanks.

  • KGHG - early mornings are best to meet...

  • Absolutely stunning video, this should be on Sonex's website!! Can't tell you how much I appreciate your effort in putting it together and uploading it. It's so cool to see the fun to be had in these machines!

  • Yeah, I was set on a Garmin 496 - or maybe the new 696 - for just that reason. I'd not really seen one of the new AvMap's with XM WX, until I saw it in your Grand Canyon video. I still like the Garmin 696 better, but it's what, three times the price? The AvMap is looking better all the time!

BTW - When I made my first post I hadn't noticed the cricket008 post was yours. That's why I asked about the engine.

  • Sorry I was logged in on my son's youtube account... that was my reply...
