  • USAC hit a new low with the way they treated the turbine. They had gone out of their way for years to make it clear that they were legal, but as soon as Granatelli made them a threat to win, they kept slapping absurd restrictions on it until it wasn't competitive. They claimed they had double the horsepower of everyone else, which was beyond stupid.

No telling whether they would have dared try to ban it had Jones won that race.

  • I grew up in Indy & remember the next day they have a televised 500 Banquet and pass out the prize money to the Drivers. When they finally acknowledged A.J to come up for winning the 67' race and handed him his Check along with the keys to his New Chevy Camaro pace car. He smiles and said! I think I'll trade this in on a Mustang & then looked down the table for & @ P. Jones and said! Cheeters never win! Thats AJ !!

  • I read that Once P. Jones pass Andretti on the 1st lap on the back stretch. When Jones looked into his rear view mirror Mario gave Jones the Finger!

  • he's my great great uncle

  • I'm so glad that AJ got to drive the pace car for this years 100th Indy and not that Trump guy! Trump has nothing to do with Indy. AJ Foyt and Mario Andretti are forever a part of Indy history!

  • The amazing thing to me was, the turbine could have been a big flop in the race. It was totally new - an experiment. And think of how many of the Novi's high hopes were dashed through the years! To see Parnelli lead that first lap by such a huge margin was astounding - and then keep running, apparently to victory. Foyt was fantastic. I didn't realize back then how patient he really was, despite his burning desire to win. Foyt, Parnelli, Mario - those were the days!

  • Glad everyone was alright!

  • Man, I love that Whooshmobile.

  • absolute ballbreaking loss. jones had it in the bag. outstanding stuff.

  • Just curious, during the race, what was his best lap time?
