Va.Beach Parks and Rec. and members of local tribes put on their yearly gathering for display. Even though we share the land, THEY are the true Americans, we owe them respect.

  • btw snerystrickland, yes...the drummers were awesome!

  • @Olwarrior, thnx for your remark.I can appreciate your perspective but disagree.I do believe most have their hearts in the right place & just want to be part of something beautiful. But,I also believe if you are going to step out into something such as learning a new culture/way of life, you should be cognizant of things that are sacred, & understand how to show proper respect.if you dont know, thats ok too,but step back & learn first then enter when you are truly ready :o)

  • Thank you vbstargazer...proud to add this link to our Four Rivers FB Page..

@ mimi9591, if you live in the Hampton Rds area, I know I for one would like to learn as much as I can and would love to met you. Our drum is an Ojibwe Drum even though we are very tribally and racially mixed. @ Olwarrior, I believe most are there with their hearts in the right place, wanting to pay honor/respect to our heritage.Thank you Olwarrior for your remark about the drummers/singers. We sing with our hearts.

  • @mimi9591 Please do not be embarrassed. You know as well as I that Pow Wows have become more of a public spectacle, full of vendors selling Chinese crap. Whats important is the desire to participate and be apart of Native American Heritage in whatever shape or form. I hope the "Real Indians" find time to dance and drum in traditional fashion where outsiders are not permitted. I am not Native American Indian but I love the feeling I get when the drummers and singers overpower my emotions.

  • I have to admit this pow wow was unfortunately a disappointment. many people dressed up in what literally seemed to be homemade holloween costums, completely disgracing sacred traditions. i was sad to see it turn out this way as this was my first year attending this particular pow wow. I'm Native American and have been dancing for 17 years now and was really embarrassed for some of these people. It's terrible that spectators will now have a false perception of our culture, dress, and customs

  • absolutely amazing!!

  • Beautifully done, thank you for sharing.

  • As a member of the MOnacan Indian Nation of Virginia I thank you for the slideshow and the kind words in the description.
