"Qui la voce" is the Mad scene from I Puritani in which Elvira the heroine, mistakenly thinking her husband has betrayed her, loses her reason. She later learns thai he was helping Queen Henrietta, the widow of King Charles 1st, to escape, and on learning this her sanity is restored.

This role was one of Virginia Zeani's early successes and, like Maria Callas, she first performed it at very short notice under the baton of Tullio Serafin.

  • This gorgeous creature can break hearts with her sound, or conversely, make them soar with pure joy! Zeani is undeniably bewitching!

Features, bone structure, coloring, Zeani's beauty is absolutley devastating. And her vocality is out of this world! Coloratura with pure Bel Canto agility and fluidity, she makes everything look and sound as though all was effortlessly produced! Such dedication is all-consuming; lucky, lucky us! Bravissima bella Diva!

    Thanks to CharlotteinWeimar!!!

    sublime is the word !

  • she is outstanding. there is a live recording of her doing I Puritani with Mario Fillipeschi - a real must have!

  • Es muy cierto. La emocion pasa en la voz que canta.

    Canta digo y no grita.

Parece que no gritase nunca lo que es mucho decir y no tengo recuerdo de otra que no lo haga.

Que bien lo hace también en Don Carlos!

  • Impecabila interpretare !!! Multumim VIRGINIA ZEANI !!! Thanks for posting !!!!

  • Very beautiful voice, and healthy technique. What a legato....

  • She is so close to Callas in her vocal interpretation of this aria in terms of emotions, and of course, technique. She is MARVELLOUS, as always.I have a CD recording of PURITANI with Callas, Di Stefano and Rossi-Lemeni, Zeani's husband!
