Brussels is not just the capital of the European Union -- it's also a center for crime. Officials and members of parliament alike have been robbed and beaten in the middle of the city's European quarter. Criminals know that many people here carry a laptop,a pricey cell-phone and a full wallet. Often, the lawbreakers hail from the city's immigrant neighborhoods, home to 40 percent of the population in Brussels. One out of every two young people here is unemployed. The police here are poorly equipped and poorly paid -- and feel they're fighting a losing battle.

  • they always trying to make a city safe with having police men patrolling.... i know a better idea... kick all the muslims out of there and it will be good again..... they do the most crimes, and live on the welfare..... the news trying to hide it, it happens all over europe these days, do something against it!!!

  • The people who work at the criminal enterprise called the EU are the one's that should be arrested for defrauding Europes tax payers of billions. Serves them right if they get their apartments broken into, they might come to realise how the rest of us feel.

  • @Synthiotics Meanwhile, Brussels has rotten away and is now poverty, corruption and crime stricken. The only reason why the city is surviving is thanks to the European Institutions.

  • @Synthiotics I totally agree with you. The socialists and the christian democrats have made a mess of the country. But people keep on voting for them because most people suffer from amnesia or are easily manipulated. Also the Flemish should reinvest the city of Brussels if they want to have a grip on the future of their land. They have abandoned their capital city because they wanted large villas with lots of space and big gardens.

  • @Synthiotics "The main reason that people have such a bad impression is that they only visit Brussels." should be "The main reason that people have such a bad impression of Belgium is that they only visit Brussels."

  • @messysanchez Go to Antwerp next time... The main reason that people have such a bad impression is that they only visit Brussels. Personally, I'd rather die than live there.

  • @johndaubal Yes, but that's the Brussels' politicians fault because they keep importing French-speaking N-Africans to bolster their socialist & Francophone voting blocks (to spite the Flemish) without making any meaningful attempts at integrating them into general society... And stuff.

  • @PaulKTakahashi Problem is that Brussels has... 19 MAYORS!!! And they all act like they're drug barons protecting their turf.

Anyway, Brussels along with Wallonia is a lost cause as long as they keep voting for socialists. We Flemish should just declare independence and distance ourselves from this madhouse of a country where we constantly get demonized but are expected to keep paying for everything.

  • A possible solution would be to elect a good mayor and get rid of the rampant corruption... ? When you know the mayor earns an all-including salary of about 60,000 € a month, one could expect some results. Especially in a country with one of the highest taxes in the world...

  • What this report fails, is in informing bluntly that most , it not all the crimes, committed in Brussels are carried out by immigrants from Muslim lands. I think that it is necessary to leave political correctness aside when tackling such a problem as crime. Ladies and Gents, we all know who are behind them.

  • I've recently come back from Brussels and it's really a shithole. Some upscale areas near EU parlament are really nice but there are much more places I'd never want to find myself in. Our hotel was within 15 minutes walk from Groote Markt and it was a third world country indeed. We were afraid to go out in the evening and had to stay in the number, listening to screaming Moroccan youth outside. Shame!

  • i advice people in city's not to carry handbags get a bum bag or a purse that you keep under your coat out of sight if thief's can't it they wont try to mug you don't even show your mobile phone or any gold you are wearing hide it or lose it and learn self defence they will think twice if you start to use karate or some thing on them its usually enough to scare them away and if you see a crime don't be afraid film it on your mobile or catch the culprits
