This video shows an older pupil (Aa), with complex needs who has been playing Skoog as part of her class activities for a year. Aa has grown in skill and confidence and this very short clip shows her playing with a mainstream ensemble. This was the first rehearsal for a new piece of music composed by Oliver Searle as part of the New Music 2012 project (info below). This video demonstrates the opportunity Skoog offers for progression and growth as a performer. Aa has grown in skill and confidence and she plays a beautiful 4 note motif when directed by Oliver, who is conducting the ensemble. The motif she plays draws on the timing laid down by the piano part of the main theme and echoes that timing beautifully showing really sensitivity in her performance. We are so excitied to see performers like Aa coming through now. Pupils who have been growing with Skoog who are now starting to make their presence felt, new music, new musicians.
Watch this space, as we will be following the development of these compositions right through to performance. working with Drake Music Scotland Oliver has composed a range of pieces and there are other pupils and other technologies involved too. This clip is rather short as Ben's battery ran out! But Drake Music Scotland will also be documenting the journey of bringing these pieces to life, so do keep on eye on their site and when we have some more footage we will share it!
New Music 20x12 is a UK-wide commissioning programme initiated by Jillian Barker and David Cohen, and delivered by PRS for Music Foundation in partnership with the BBC, LOCOG, Sound and Music and NMC Recordings.
Ahh yes... sorry battery ran out. But the full piece will be performed later this year as part of the New music 2012 project along with 3 or 4 other pieces featuring a range of tech - check the drake music scotland site for info - plus we will keep you posted
