The Two Trees of Meadow Grove

I remember the day I first passed Meadow Grove
My car reaching the peak of the tallest hillside
These two baby spruce trees came into full view
And were no more than a foot tall to the world
Each branch extending outward to the other.

The Spring-time sun peaked over the top branch
And I imagined them as a King and Queen
The King and Queen of Meadow Grove
Sharing a quiet life together on a grassy knoll
Protected in the arms of God's grace.

I slowly passed the heavenly image
Turning my emotions and feelings that day
Into a flourish of heartfelt forgiveness
Having witnessed something so pure
Shall live beyond my soul's final heartbeat.

One day on a trip through a wooded countryside
Some fifty years beyond my youthful ways
The glorious Fall imagery stunned my heart
As the car reached the tallest hillside view
And two grown spruce trees fulfilled my eyes.

Before me stood the King and Queen of Meadow Grove
Where two noble trees had grown peaceful and wise
Each set of branches entwined with the other
Sharing in a bond few shall ever live
Until time parts them with a gentle breeze.
