I'm sorry but I just can not get used to "Martin's" songs without Martin. Semblance of Normality was a great album and was easy to digest with the new vocalist, but having him perform Martin's "back-catalog" just doesn't work. He just does not have the same delivery on those songs as Martin did and his style of singing fits the Semblance material just fine, unfortunately Martin is what made the other music special for me.
I'll support anything new they do, but R.I.P. the back catalog.
It's funny how a band with such intelligent lyrics attract a certain type of fan. The arguments about which vocalists are better are so formal; "I respect your opinion", "That is true, but.." etc.
In all the Nightwish youtube arguments, it's more like "OMG ANETTE IS SOO SHIT, TARJA WAS THE ONLY GOOD THING BOUT NW, THEY ARE FUCKING LAME NOW!!!"
i still like them they are still my favourite band. what im saying is that now they are a completely different band and it would be more appropriate to change the name and make a new beginning without martin's ghost over them. it is natural to compare martin and kevin it happens to all the bands that change singers. if they had a different name noone whould mention martin and everyone would accept them for what they are
Well that's your opinion, in my opinion the Semblance album was the most inspired Skyclad had sounded in many, many years, a real breath of fresh air and quality.
If you don't like them without Martin that's fine, but there's no need to go around and say they should change the name and say that Skyclad "was Martin's band" because it wasn't, he was just a member of the band, he didn't own it.
well thats your opinion and i respect it. but it wasnt only steve's idea to form the band it was steve's martin's and greame's. also, many times the music is based on the lyrics so if martin hadnt wrote his lyrics maybe steve had never written this music. if you want proof look at skyclad today. their music is much less inspired than the past. and skyclad are not doing ok today. they have completely disappeared. im not saying that this happens because martin left but unfortunately it happens
Like I said Semblance... to me was the best album in nearly ten years, aka it's my 4th favorite after Prince.., Silent Whales and Burnt Offering...
The "soul" of a band in my opinion is its music so the guy who writes the music must be the soul. It was Steve Ramsey's idea to form Skyclad and he has taken care of the band ever since, so that makes him the "leader" if there is one. Martin was a singer and lyricist, a good one, but he has left and in my opinion the band is doing fine without him.
Are you saying that a semplance of normality is better than prince of a poverty line and oui avant garde a chance? you must be kidding me... semplance is a good album but nothing more. the albums i ve mentioned were GREAT. and bear in mind that leader is not the one that writes the music. it's the one that makes people feel every word of the lyrics in their heart. martin was the soul of the band, a real frontman and therefore the leader
If Martin was "the leader" of Skyclad I must say he wrote very little music for a band leader, aka none! Nah, Steve Ramsey is the soul of Skyclad. I really loved "A Semblance of Normality", it was the most inspired Skyclad had sounded in nearly ten years. After Silent Whales it went continously downhill and Semblance broke that trend. I was a little disappointed by the newest album though, thought they'd come up with something better after five years or something.
@Spectre500 mate you are really out of order .MARTIN was not only the singer at this band..
