@rhidiandavies1991 The mistake they made with this film is that they wanted to make a film that kids could watch. If they'd kept all the subtle criticisms of the church authority as well as the references to sexual awareness and coming of age present in the book, it would have risen the age limit to 12 or PG13 in the US.

@inamonianim Haha agreed. And an equally good book-film transition of TSK and TAS while they're at it - though I wouldn't mind them making the end of TAS a little happier lol
-
@evilchickenfilms yeah stop authority stop atheism
-
Thumbs up if you want an undiluted, non-kiddy film version of Northern Lights to make up for this complete turd of a book-film transition.

@Texasgal14 Omg I totally agree, this is my very book series of all time and they turned the film into some little kids movie...THIS BOOK IS DARK AND NOT FOR LITTLE KIDS! So don't make a movie of it if you are going to destroy it QQ. Sorry had to vent and totally agreed with exactly what you said :D

@KuroiiTenshii there was a interview with the director i read, and he said something like he filmed it with best intentions, and the final editing and organising wasnt down to him, and that he was upset with the end result. Sounds like he was on our side all along, but i so wish he could do a directors cut. :(

@catjoox31 In the book, Lyra is actually captured by Gobblers and taken to Bolvangar BEFORE she ends up in Svalbard. After going to Svalbard, they find Asriel who captures Roger (not sure why, still to read the rest of the book). That's how the game ends anyway, and the game is much more faithful to the books. I recommend either playing that or reading the book to fully understand - I've still to read the last few pages of the book :)

The book beats the film by miles. Have a guess why.

I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

I agree that there needs to be a Director's cut, simply re-do some of the scenes and stay true to the books, the ending in particular is very important. I don't understand why he did it this way, I really don't.
Put this in movie!!!! Stop church!!! Rebellion!!!!! Hahahaha! Down with the authority!!!!!

I completely agree with you! Well said. They shouldn't have made an adult book into a kids movie, or at least they shouldn't have f****** up the order to make it a 'happy ending'. It ended how it did in Northern Lights for a reason.
