I spotted these three sharing a bike ride this morning, possibly on their way to school. There's dad up front riding the tandem with one child on-board and a second child riding the tag-a-long towed by the tandem. Good for them!
I've see someone recently around here with a tandem tag-a-long that had 2 seats on it... and that was wobbling around on its mount let alone tail wobble...
I've not realistically considered a trailer, don't know if I would ever trust cars enough.
It took a while for my wife (non-cyclist) to accept that it was safe for my to take our then 14 month-old out in the trailer. I started off on back roads and rode on the pavement but that's not a great place to ride.
What struck me tho as I rode home from the shop after picking up the trailer (which was empty) was how much space drivers gave me. I thought, how come they don't do this under normal circumstances?
Also, an added safety feature is the full safety cage, 5-point harness, no feet dangling near the rear wheel and no chance that your passenger(s) will fall if you do. The trailer will stay upright even if you fall off. There should be a secondary attachment to your bike in case the primary becomes detatched, so they won't take off down the road.
Plus the luggage space allows for a picnic or a week's worth of groceries.
In fact I used mine (with the seat down) to move house!
Oh, and mount wobble seems inherant with whatever tag-a-long you choose. I went for a trailgator, which is a bar that connects bike to bike, so your child can ride solo when you get there.
My pal has a true tag-a-long and the mount wobble was about the same.
I can tell you from experience, when they move up from the trailer to the tag-a-long, you'll wish they were back in the trailer! It may be heavier but at least a trailer won't wobble!
My son has since learned to ride without stabilisers and is looking forward to his new 6-speed bike for Christmas. He says he wants to be like Dad and cycle to work when he grows up! :)

You might just be pleasantly surprised.

Is that a cycle path then? (I see a solo cyclist after...)
I would understand if he wouldn't want to take that load on the road.
I kind of can't wait until I have enough sprogs to load up uber tandems :p

Yes that is an off-road cycle lane.
