TEDxEast INTERCONNECTIVITY - 11.11.10: Debbi Berebichez- How physics gains insight from interconnectivity
What can physics learn from social networks? This is the question that Debbi Berebichez raises in her provocative talk about emergent behaviors and physics. According to Berebichez, emergent behavior occurs when a system composed of independent parts forms more complex behaviors as a collective and exhibits properties which the individual components do not have. She challenges the audience with the idea of what could be if physicists looked beyond their discipline in order to learn from the bigger picture.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*
