This Catholic film has value even if you are not Catholic. Individuals growing up during the Baby Boomer generation will particularly find merit in this film. The young Martin Sheen portrayed a priest who was sent to stop the monks in the monastery from celebrating the Mass in Latin. All the performance in the film are excellent. The conflict between faith and conscience and the view of obedience is clearly demonstrated.

My Grand father Geoff Golden plays the publican .....have your religious debates here , but sorry My grandad worked with Martin Sheen ...for me that is so cool . lol

@Orbo2009 As a Protestant Christian I must say that I pray for you. How long will you let those jesuits, which operate within your own "church", mess with your brain. There is such a thing a cognitive dissonance and I am sure you would be feeling its effects after seeing this film. I suggest that in your current moment of mental weakness that you seek the strength of the Lord and Savior and not that of your own or some worldly "pontiff".

@Orbo2009 True, but that disheartnening fact is not revealed until the very, very end, and disturbing as it is, it won't affect a true believer, whereas the larger duration of the film spoke deeply to the men of my family who had lost interest in the effeminate celebration of the Novus Ordo in our parish. If the film is poison, it's only strong enough to act as medicine.

This is not a faithful Latin Mass movie. Watch the ending closely. The Abbot is an agnostic who expects Catholicism is obsolete; but for the sake of his monks doesn't have the heart to tell them. Why disturb their pious ignorance? It's an anti-catholic film, to be sure.

This film is readily available at the dollar stores near my home. Need a copy I may be able to get one for you or check your dollar stores. They sit on the shelves by the dozen... many traditional Latin goers have never even heard of this gem ! Let me know.

The only True Mass is the traditional LATIN Mass. It is the only one that holds the plentitude of graces! It does not allow for the imaginations of others to go wild with new and many time blasphemous antics that continue to sprout all over in the new mass.
