南大門仁王像 大修理 〜運慶に挑んだ３０人〜 (4 of 4)

On May 18, 2004, the 144th NHK episode of "Project X" focused on the restoration of the twin 28-foot-tall wooden statues at the Todaiji in Nara, Japan. These Kongo Rikishi -- called Ungyo (w/ closed mouth) and Agyo (w/ open mouth) -- were sculpted in 1203 by a team of less than twenty people in a little over two months time, under the direction of master Japanese sculptors Unkei and Kaikei. This television special documents the first time in nearly 800 years that these statues were removed from their dedicated place at the Todaiji's gate, and disassembled for cleaning.

これ、修理した人も本当に凄いけど運慶どんだけ凄いの？？？

８００年前にこれだけの計算して作ってるわけでしょう。

小野寺さんも開けてビックリという感じだったんだろうなあ。

しかし、これの修理なんて想像がつかない。なんか機械や時計をば­らしていく

うちに元に戻せない恐怖みたいで。しかもあれだけ精巧にできてい­るなんて。

修理の技術もそうだけど昔の人間も凄かったんだなあと。そしてこ­の情報化時代を

もってしても大昔の技術に感嘆することがあるんだと改めて実感し­た。
