Never had that problem even squeezing the phone.
Super AMOLED is way clearer that TFT at angles and with fast motion scenes, TFT's have 4 layers for touch screens, super AMOLED have 2, side by side with iphone 4 there is no comparison. I think you squeezed your phone way to hard to get the signal to drop! ;)
I love the captivate but hate the horrible battery life. I'll take it though rather than be locked into the Apple way or the highway. Open source will win that case every time IMO.

I own a Captivate as well and noticed this myself. However, unlike the iPhone 4, the "death" grip on the Captivate is more like a "choke" hold. I go from 4-5 bars to 2-3 bars at the lowest with that gripping style. It does in fact lower the reception, but in no way kills it completely. I haven't had a dropped call holding it in that fashion as well.

Hmm, I haven't had any problems like this on my phone, I use it fairly often and hold it using said "death grip" I don't get a drop, but it's as you said, it depends on if you have strong reception or mixed reception.
my job gives me the ability to try different phones for extended periods of time and i can say that between the iphone 4 and the captivate. Ive had hardly any problems with either. at the end of the day i chose to stick with the iphone 4 simply based on the ease of use. its simple, to the point, takes phenomenal pictures and thats that.

I didn't really have to squeeze or
Anything to make it happen but just like with the iPhone if ur signal is strong u won't see any bar drops , it will simply happen in areas where you have mixed reception . Being that I have access to these phones I've tried it on different captivates and have had the same results .

@Priscilla060 Even dumb phones have this issue. I had it on my samsung sync in 2007. as a matter of fact it came with a sticker showing you where NOT to hold that phone but it never got blown out of proportion.

have you dropped calls as a result? the thing is many phones have this problem but it's just easier to do on the iPhone 4 because Apple decided to give you that X-marks the spot to touch. Either way How are you liking the captivate so far ?

@tarunrad i love this phone . Between the Iphone 4 they both have advantages and disadvantages.
The captivates screen is amazing but theres discoloration when viewing from an angle. it can play any video format so importing avi's or xvid works fine. Flash support on Android 2.1 is also great for certain video sites.
Battery life however is HORRIBLE.
The one thing I can complain about the iphone is what has plagued it forever and that is lack of open source
