  • at least bananas are my favorite fruit. lol I ve never had a vit D test done :( How long have you been diabetic? So you ve been 10 months raw vegan? Dont you ever feel like something cooked? I am thinking of crunchy plantains right now hahahaha

  • @bluejewelrybox i guess i am a little over three years ATTEMPTING to eat raw vegan. my first 6 months were pretty much reading everything on raw i could and giving it a shot, then i tried various peoples' raw eating theories, and never felt fantastic until i tried doug graham's 80-10-10 diet. i didn't know anyone doing it though, so really struggled for a year trying to switch from high-fat to getting rid of those fats, as well as missing my cooked foods and falling off the wagon a lot.

  • @tashaleeministry i am 10 months of being pretty close to 100% eating as 80-10-10 directs, but it took a long time to get here. i have had type 1 for about 23 years and a serious eating disorder for about 15, so lots of damage in my body that needs to get cleared out before i can get healthy, so i am trying to eat the best way i possibly can!

  • I have gained about 10 lbs form cooked vegan to raw vegan (lots of raw nuts and veggies). I am not that much of a fruit person, but I DO like bananas. I read in Robby's page that wwwwwhen he turned raw vegan he ate only bananas for an entire week so am thinking about it. Did being Vitamin D deficient make you weak, unable to excercise?

  • @bluejewelrybox yes, Vitamin D deficiency has many symptoms, but for me, it was extreme exhaustion and inability to do anything besides lie down all day. it has been 10 months and i am still recovering from the effects of the deficiency. i have done "banana island" too--tell you what, i was ready to eat something else at the end of the week! hahaha. have fun! and make sure your bananas are ripe--very spotty--and you are drinking plenty of water! otherwise, digestion is not so great! :)

  • I know, its so hard though, to not eat nuts. So are you still raw vegan? Have you lost weight? It seems to me that plain vegan gave me better control and not put on weight. So what would you saw is the #1 plus of being raw vegan vs plain vegan?

  • @bluejewelrybox transition is hard for just about everyone, but i find eating without nuts very easy now! just takes time to figure out what works. when the motivation is enough, doesn't matter how hard it is, i am going to do it! so i found a way to make low-fat raw vegan work for me---really really helps to EAT MORE FRUIT! :)

  • @bluejewelrybox sending you a message with the address of my written blog. you might find a lot of your questions answered there...i write a LOT. :) yes, still low-fat raw vegan, in the process of losing weight i gained (both doing high-fat raw vegan and the transition struggles)...couldn't for a while due to vitamin D deficiency and unable to exercise. cooked vegan didn't work for me because my body could not tolerate any more salt...but for me the #1 of raw is avoiding damage cooking causes.

  • @bluejewelrybox i loved raw nuts too, which is how i gained all the body fat i gained doing raw vegan...body fat=decreased sensitivity to insulin. fat stored around organs too, even if not visible outwardly--same effect. also fat eaten with meals will keep the sugar hanging out in the bloodstream. have you read dr. neal barnard's program for reversing diabetes? incredible book on why fat is the problem, not carbs. type 1 friends: it won't let me post a link here; will do it in the info box!

  • Thanks for replying. I cant believe you eat all that fruit and manage your BS so well. 4 or 5 mangoes, wow! Do you know any other type 1's that are also raw vegan? I love sprouted hummus and raw nuts though :(
