On Friday 30th April 2010, the members of the National Union of Journalists hald their first strike action for over 30 years. Owners Johnston Press have introduced at new computer system for newspaper production called Atex, due to which all 6 sub-editors have lost their jobs, and their workload put on reporters. This is my video diary of the day, the first strike I have been involved in too, and my fellow union members and colleagues strike too.
Despite our initial nerves and doubts, it turned out to be a great day in every way...beautiful sunshine(when it was forecast to rain), and wonderful support from the public, our readers (when they could have ignored us!).
