IF i recall correctly they did something where they went back and counted his political jokes over the years and it was almost dead even

A smart comedian would stay in the middle and not take sides ( at least not in public ) although there are a few comedians that are one extreme or the other, they will only appeal to one side. Jay is an equal opportunity offender. :)

No wonder they dumped him...

First thing, Jay wasn't dumped, they upgraded him to an earlier time slot 10pm instead of 11:30pm. which i not common practice. Jay wanted to retire , and made it clear years ago, but seems NBC did not want to lose their late night King, ( yes he pulls more than David Letterman ), so my guess is that NBC made him this offer for a juicier time slot.

Wrong, they dumped him. Jay just wasn't leftist enough.

Jay is on at 10 PM now (EST) the show is a bit different, no desk, so he can sit closer to guests and some of the skits are reversed, for example "headlines" is at the end of the show instead of at the beginning. other than those little things its about the same. 10pm is a prime time slot, I even heard letterman make a joking comment ( hinting to network ) about wanting that time slot. Im a night owl, so now I actually watch Leno less in that time slot, now I watch Conan then Graig on Late late
