Michael Savage - 1/20/09 - "Mass Hysteria" Opening Monologue

If you were watching the inauguration ceremonies on television today, you saw not only the president and the vice-president being sworn in, and the masses of cheering crowds, all blathered over ceaselessly by empty suits and empty skirts.

You also saw various dignitaries, members of the senate and house of representatives, milling around, both before and after the oath of office. John Kerry for example, prior to the swearing-in, looked like a lonely horse standing in a field as he was ignored by those trying to get a better glimpse at obama. I wished someone would come up to him and give him a feedbag.

And then there was the strange case of the queen of diamonds, Dianne Feinstein. She was there acting as a sort of overblown mistress of ceremonies for the whole event. And throughout the proceedings, there was an interesting interplay between her and barack obama. As they were walking into the capitol building. Feinstein was edging ever closer to Obama. It reached the point where she was giving him only an inch or two of breathing space. And then a marine guard stepped in between them, as if too relieve Obama of having to be so close to her. She seemed to be edging as close as she possibly could to the source of power. And then afterwards, once he had bungled the oath of office, and given an uninspiring speech, obama walked away from the podium. And again, di fi tried to get too close to the president. But this time, as you could see if you were watching the tv closely, he got sick of her being so close and sort of hipped her out of the way. Is the body language we saw play out in this incident a foreshadowing of things to come? What is Dianne Deinstein angling for?

But that wasnt the only bizzare sideshow to this event. Dick Dheney, who claimed to have pulled a back muscle, was pushed around in a wheelchair for the entire inauguration. It was strange to see him hunch himself over in an exaggerated way, almost as if to elicit sympathy from potential prosecutors. And then, most strangely of all, when he was wheeled up to his limo after the oath of office, he stood up from his wheelchair and gets himself into the car easily. it was a complete show, which none of the rest of the media seems to have caught.

The crowd was littered with these little power dramas. Can you imagine the hindreds of congressmen, senators, cabinet members, ex presidents, each of whom is ude to being the center of their own particular universe, each smiling superficially and glancing around furtively as they realize that they are no longer the center of attention. A thousand egos crushed. A thousand self-images of the body politick bruised.

Tulipomania

In 1841, a british journalist named Charles Mackay wrote a book called the extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds. it described a phenomenon of the 1630s in holland called tulipomania, in what may have been the first recorded advent of a speculative bubble. The dutch began bidding the prices of tulips higher and higher until they started to sell for as much as 10 times what the average worker in Holland made.

Some people have compared this to the housing bubble, and the resulting mortgage crisis i the united states. But the reason im talking about it today is slightly different. Because in this country weve gone from tulipomania to obama mania, the same bursting of the speculative bubble may ensue. The left, and even many so called conservatives, have invested so much hope in Barack Obama that were he to fail to live up to their expectations ,we might not see an economic collapse, but a political collapse.

Anyone with such ridiculous expectations placed apon them by american liberals, even though he might be a liberal himself, is bound to fail to extent or another. and yet again and again he has been trumpeted as the next messiah and when those inevitable failures come, the obama mania bubble will burst, and liberals will be wrecked on the shores of their own delusions. Again the title of mackays book was the extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds. and today of all days we are seeing the madness of crowds. In Holland of the 16th century the madness was over a flower. In the United States of America of 2009 the madness is over power.
