A poor quality video but decent quality audio recording of Rebecca Caine in the original production of Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1987.

Notes:
The original Christine Think of Me dress appears in this video (hard to tell).

The "London Cadenza" originated by Claire Moore appears here. I believe Rebecca added the turn/grupetto at the start of the ascending arpeggiated V7chord in the cadenza. The majority of subsequent actresses to sing the London Cadenza use that turn/grupetto but often sing the ascending V7 chord staccato.

Fans interested in more of Rebecca can purchase her album "Leading Ladies" on iTunes. Other recordings including Phantom of the Opera (Original Canadian Cast Highlights), Les Miserables (Original Cast Recording), and Mr. Emmett Takes A Walk. A young Rebecca Caine also appears on the Anything Goes soundtrack singing "Where Are the Men?".

Final verse lyrics appear only in these earlier versions of Think of Me:

Fly Away
But when you lie awake
Remember all we used to be
But please promise me that sometimes
You will think of me

A recording exists out there of Maria Kesselman, original Princess/Christine understudy singing these lyrics as well.

  • Is she the first Christine to use this cadenza?

  • Is she the first Christine to use this cadenza?

  • Rebecca Caine - fabulous voice. Saw her in Atlantic Canada recently. Flawless performances - a truly great Canadian treasure. Sing on Rebecca - you are truly phenomenal--your Great Ladies of Song CD - stunning.

  • Nice. She was always my favorite Christine. So clear, subtle and powerful. You can really see why the Phantom has such a fascination with such a Christine (basically, she stands out from other singers)

  • You sir, are a hero and god send.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing her as Christine in Toronto. She was phenomenal. Actually, Rebecca herself just posted this link to Facebook today, so that's how I got here ... :o)

  • Thank you so much! Rebecca Caine is my favorite Christine.

  • @Sparkles9568 That was the second thing I noticed! First thing was that she did a very Brightman-esque twirl during the Raoul bit.

  • Oh and notice how she doesn't just throw her scarf at the end... she's got a little flair and bow at the end... LOVE HER!

  • great find!!! such a treasure!!!
