Fuel sources cause cars stocks to dip
GM Europe and the Opel Supervisory Board are submitting a long-term plan for viability to European government representatives. The global credit crunch and ongoing economic crisis is affecting the automotive business throughout the world, including GMs European operations. On Feb. 27, we announced that GM Europe has submitted a viability plan to various European governments that includes a funding request for €3.3 billion in government support. If this request is approved, the funding would be used only to support GMs operations in Europe. GM is currently working with German government representatives to answer questions and provide additional information that may be needed to move the funding process forward.
Selling our Opel/Vauxhall brand would not be practical because they are so tightly integrated within GM as a whole. However, we remain open to any partnerships, alignments or equity stakes that will strengthen GM Europe and the Opel and Vauxhall brands.
