Here's one I'm working on getting loose to. I have played a basically straight melody on it for a few years, but am now searching for different notes to throw in there. One way I like to do that is to just play it a milion times and mix and match what works and dosn't. I'm half-way to wher I want to be, which isn't very far!

  • imho i'd suggest keeping much, much closer to the frets. Your fingers do a lot of dancing.

This is from someone who's a very lame player and only put up two vids of himself playing.

    Well done.

  • I appreciate the feedback!

I think you are onto something with your observation. My finger movement is directly related to how much I am able to practice, kind of like a runner who runs best when he/she runs a lot. I'm not sure how my practice regimen was when I did this video, but it seems a little off.

Also, the action tends to creep up on me, and when it does I struggle with playing as fluidly. Fluctuating action is the only thing that drives me nuts about playing the mandolin.

  • Love it!

  • Awesome! Check out the way I learned it...hearing this one makes me think I might do a hybrid of the two. Very cool!
