Wow. They don't do that kind of jaeger nowadays. You have to swing backwards to complete a jaeger not do a twist from a front swing to perform one. I do love the gymnasts at those era's coz its combining skills and grace. Nowadays, they have to sacrifice grace to give way to difficulty and power. Sigh. But I still love gymnastics.

Some gymnasts still perform the Deltchev, Ksenia Semyonova for example.

I think the gymnasts nowadays should be given the option of how far they want the bars to be. Then they can pick their own style.

Her consistency was what set her apart and made her truly great not good. She scored 40 out of 40 at these Olympics on bars; her routines always looked like a reply of the days before because they were so controlled and flawless. Amazing.

@bbhouk1 I think the judges come to realize in both Szabo and Silivas's cases how controversial the AA was and how they were quite possibly robbed so they favor them and give them the benefit of the doubt in the event finals.

Silivas scored a perfect 10.00 in her AA bars set as well. She equaled the record set by her compatriot Nadia Comaneci on that apparatus. Two of the greats. Ain't no doubt. :)

To be fair, people are probably saying it's a Jaeger because that's what the commentator says. She's wrong though, of course it's a Deltchev!

i really hate the way they used to do olympic gymnastics in the 80's

in 1984 MLR got the AA but Szabo got pretty much everything else (vault, beam, floor titles) and then they put in McNamara and Ma Yanhong to make it SEEM like they weren't playing favorites

and here in '88 Shushonova won the AA and then Sillivas got every other title but the vault title (not counting team for either of them)

anyway it seems like they just choose 2 favorites and whoever didnt win AA gold got everything else

I agree 100% sparty! I think also that Nastia stuck her landings in Bejing which gave her the gold over Shawn and Yang. I am glad she won though as much as I love Chineese gymnastics.
