  • I got this yesterday as an xmas present. The instructions clearly state 2 things that you don't follow here so im hoping you can clarify: (1) Leave 2 cm of water in bottom pot. You seem to drain it nearly completely. (2) never put the pot on a cold or wet surface after boiling.

Im looking for a clean bold cup of coffee and im on pot #8 today and cannot get it with this maker. All i get are very tasteless watery pots of coffee :(

  • @nootron Hi, in order for the vacuum to work you must remove the heat source. I did not put it on a cold surface, I just removed it from the heat source. I also find that the best technique is to let all of the water to go up into the top globe and in this video I actually thought I removed the heat source too quickly since the draining to the bottom globe was slower than it should be. If you coffee is watery and tasteless I would suggest adding more coffee. ..

  • @nootron The Bodum Santos is a 1 litre pot, so I suggest using at least 40-50 grams of coffee. The coffee should be a medium grind or a little coarser. Let the water come close to boiling, the top globe when infused should start bubbling a little bit, that is when you should remove it and the coffee should be sucked down fairly quickly. If you are having trouble, give us a call and I will try to walk you through it.

  • You go to all that trouble to put it in a styrofoam cup! LOL And what does 'fairly clean' cup of coffee mean? Semi-sooty? I would redo this a couple more times to lose the stutter as well. Otherwise, nice work. : )

  • @VideosbyElle The styrofoam cup is really haunting me; in every other video I use bodum glassware; I won't make that mistake again. Fairly Clean means that it is cleaner than a french press but not quite as clean as filtered. There may be some sediment in the cup.

  • is that a primus omnifuel?

  • @scarekrow9 Yes it is, good eye.

  • Canadian eh!

  • By the way, which Gas Stove are you using

  • @nootron As far as letting all the water go up into the top globe, this just isn't possible. The glass stem only goes to about 1/4 inch above the bottom of the bottom pitcher so even if you let it boil for 10 minutes, there is always going to be 1/4 inch of water left in the bottom pitcher.

  • @iDrinkCoffeeCanada Thanks for the tips. I am going to add more coffee. Currently we are using a fine grind instead of a coarse. Does a coarse grind lead to a richer coffee brew? Or is a coarse grind only suggested to avoid possibly clogging the draining of the top pot?

  • Great process and vid but he really could've used real china coffee cups!
