  • OMG my bros like this!!!!!

  • Surely it's better for young fit people to do a abit of part time work instead of collecting EMA. Paper rounds, shelf filling, weekend work is all easy to obtain. I worked at Tesco, ran club nights, bought & sold, played football and worked in bars for A'levels money. It's not a silver spoon, it's a work ethic.

  • EMA is not even enough money to cover food and bills,if you had parents that charged you a reasonable amount for board and lodgings it would not even cover that.

So in response to your comment the EMA is hardly a silver spoon and your comment is Fucking ridiculous

  • So we should give people EMA so everyone has the opportunity to stick a silver spoon up their own arse?

    Fucking ridiculous.

  • If transport is not an issue, why doesn't Hartlepool have the same economic performance as say Portsmouth? Considering the amount of public sector jobs & investment into the North East, if your model is correct, that whole area should be thriving.

I'm not saying all public sector services should be wiped out, just cut to the core. The likes of NICE have a role but equally, Medical practitionors shld have choice in their market.

  • How much of an economic advantage? Road travel through much of the UK is already pretty good. The M6 toll, for example, hasn't shown much in the way of benefit. It has a small operating profit but not enough to pay off the interest on the construction costs- and that's a toll road.

You seem to think that agencies do nothing other than draw salaries. This is not true. The benefits of, say, NICE, are well-documented.

  • Spending too much on public services is unsustainable, if we have less than 50% of the economy contributing, the deficeit will grow and the PSBR eventually will be unfundable (see Greece). We also have a crazy situation where pub sector jobs are paid more than the productive sector. The best people should always go to the private sector & pub sector is emplyer of last resort.

  • Roads etc do require maintainance but for instance, the A1(m) extension will bring the North East an economic advatage which is far better than setting up yet another government agency there. Roads & infrastructure are cheaper than say a nucleur-free secretariat that needs a wage and every year this role is maintained, it costs more to get rid of.

  • There's nothing unsustainable about public services. In one form or another, they've been sustained for decades. The figures show that education is very efficient. Even if diminishing returns kick in after a certain point, reducing spending pushes the benefit down back thorugh the very efficient region. Roads and other infrastructure are not one-off expenditures, they require continual maintenance which offsets any productivity gains. The govt's policies are political, not economic.

  • We'd agree on the Olympics but nevertheless, it is the biggest construction site in Europe & employs a lot of people for now. Roads & infrastructure give UK business a comparable advantage so that employs people in construction and business employs more when complete. Education is a very inefficient way of spending, classic example of diminishing returns.

The fact governemtn is the largest source of employment means it's unsustainable. You can't continue to tax production for pub services.
