Sergei Grinkov - In Loving Memory

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov were different from all the other pairs skaters. They had their own unique magic on the ice, and their love for each other was obvious to anyone who saw them skate. They began skating when Ekaterina--Katia to her friends--was just 11 and Sergei was 15. Through the years they won many competitions and the hearts of all who watched. They fell in love, married in 1991, and had a baby girl in 1992. They won gold medals in the 1988 and 1994 Olympics. They were living a fairytale. But all their happiness came to an end in 1995 when Sergei collapsed during a routine training session. He died at the hospital, leaving behind his young wife and 3-year-old daughter. He was only 28. When Sergei's heart stopped in 1995, it left a hole in the hearts of family, fans, friends, and the figure skating community.

This mixture of wonderful music and pics have brought tears to my eyes. This was my favourite pair of skaters! No one else from FS could bring the same interest in me to this sport as they did. I wish Katya to be happy now. I highly recommend you to watch her Ice Age performances here! Her partner in the show somewhat reminds me of Sergey - when they dance, it's absolutely awesome!

My sincerst sympathy to the family left behind, from Germany, Unfortunately it happens to very young successfull physically FIT Sports-Pro's that they collapse for no apparent reason and die, and this can have so many reasons.. a lot of soccer players had this happen to them to.. May Katerina and her little daughter have a peaceful, again joyful life, know that Sergei is watching over them from above.. SIncerley from Germany

That was so sad when he died. I used to love to watch them skate and didn't even know their names, it just seemed like time stopped when they skated and how they looked at each other as if they were the only skaters in the room. They were beautiful!
