I demonstrate how to make or "brew" your own 1 gallon batch of kombucha. To see how to grow the SCOBY required to make kombucha, watch my other video titled: Kombucha: How to Grow a SCOBY (Mother) From Scratch.

Ingredients:
2 bottles GT's original kombucha
2 bags black tea
(no Earl Grey or herbal tea)
A little under 1/3 C sugar
2 C spring water

Supplies:
6 QT stainless steel pot
1/2 gallon glass jar
Breathable cloth
Rubber band
Wooden spoon

Bring water to a boil.
Add sugar, stir and let dissolve for 5 minutes.
Add black tea and let steep for 10 - 15 minutes.
Cover pot and let tea cool to room temp.
Add reserve kombucha and SCOBY
Cover jar with cloth and fasten with rubber band.
Let sit in dark quiet place until feremented and baby forms.

  • Is it ok to use tap water? And what happens if it isn't a stainless steel pot?

  • @MissGretaaa You could possibly used filtered tap water, but I don't recommend it as it may produce an inferior product. A non-stainless steel pot could leach mineral salts from the metal, also producing an inferior product.

  • I would also like to know what health benefits you have experienced..

  • @BackyardDiscoveryCo More energy

  • Have you noticed any health improvements? Where did you get your scoby? I thought your vid was very well done! Thank you for posting it for us.

  • @Lulu4Him Kombucha always gives me a kick of energy. I grew the SCOBY myself, see the video response.

  • @MissGretaaa I boil the tap water for 10 min to make it distilled water and take it off the heat and then add sugar stir until disolved and have never had any problems 2 gallons in my kitchen right now on top my fridge ^_^

  • wow, only 12 days later my scoby is about ½inch thick. i tasted it and it already tasted like the kombucha i bought in store. i will make the one gallon batch now. :) your recipe is really good. no hidden technique like others, very simple and easy

  • very helpful videos! does the homemade kombucha taste the same as the one by GT?

  • @Lulu4Him look for his first video, 'how to make SCOBY'

  • I like your video. Unlike others, you explain everything clearly. About a week ago I watch your video showing how to make mother kombucha. I made it yesterday (2/13/12) and hopefully it works. Now I'm just waiting for the mother to form so I can make batches of my own kombucha. Good work, keep it up. :)

  • @thatoneguyonline I know you grew the scoby yourself, but where did you get the first one? Did a friend give you one to get you started? Or did you buy on?
