@SirWingfoot Yeah people love giving their two sense when they know absolutely everything. Guys probably never been on a bike, weights 300 lbs and was eating a twinkie while watching this video.

motorcycle cops are not allowed to pull anybody over whether it is a warning or a ticket once it starts to get dark.

Lane Splitting is legal in CA & there are NO laws on the books for SPECIFIC rules to the practice. Bikers who split lanes are sometimes cited for
VC 22350 basic speed law
VC 21658 governs lane changes
VC 21755 allows passing on the right under safe conditions
CHP Web site says lane splitting is permissible if done in a safe and prudent manner, and that interpretation is completely at the digression of LE

@MikeW259 until your bike overheats. I bet a 5 min. ride on my R1 on a hot summer day in cali.and you'll be saying eff sitting in this traffic.

@PsychoSpiral that's not a correction, that's just more disinformation. If there is no law against something, then it is legal, by definition.
The legality of lane sharing has nothing to do with whether or not your behavior can be cited for failure to maintain lane control, driving without due caution, or any number of other highway codes.

@SatansSpatula A little correction. It is not legal OR illegal if there's no law. And yes, it is up to the police officer to decide whether or not lane-sharing/lane-splitting by a rider is dangerous or not in highways or city streets.
-
So much disinformation here. Lane splitting is legal in California because 1) there is no law stating that two vehicles cannot occupy the same lane and 2) there is no law explicitly banning lane splitting.
*Most* states have either a traffic code banning lane sharing by a motorcycle, or a more blanket ban on two vehicles (of any kind) being in the same lane at the same time.
You can be nabbed on other infractions, e.g. improper lane change or dangerous driving.

@bugz000 they're actually taught in classes to stay in lower gears while lane splitting so people hear them coming
