In the U.S., only half of Sickle Cell patients survive past the age of 40. A bone marrow transplant can functionally cure the disease, even though the patient still carries the gene, but few people find a matching donor. And there's significant risk associated with the transplant itself. Research at the University of Louisville is changing that and already changing young lives.

  • I'm 45 and will be 46 in 5days....I suffer from Sickle Cell Anemia Disease but I can't allow MAN to tell me how long I got to live!! GOD is the ONLY one that knows for sure! I have not finished what I am down here for...My Destiny!! The BOOK has not even started yet! I have a journey that is painful sometimes but still ....I RISE to the calling!! Don't GIVE UP!! We can make a difference if we try!

  • My mother suffers from sickle cell, and is on disability because of it. Since she receives SSI and is on medicaid this automatically almost barres her from being able to afford the tranplant. Its sucks that the government will only keep her alive and not do what it takes to cure her.
