@MankindDiary Christianity did not start out as a good reason to exterminate whole nations. Again, there is reason to SUSPECT we would be better off without Christianity but we do not KNOW. Religion is a VERY BAD INFLUENCE but it is not the ONLY FACTOR. Any other stupid ignorant religion might have grown to be as bad as Christianity is today. Of course, the 2 main factors in it being what it is are Constantine's supposed fevered dream & Rome's conquering so much of Europe.

@Strangerinasland Christianity not, but judaism yes. Whole Old Testament is bathed in blood. Christianity started his bloody road three ages after Christ, when it started to be a state religion. Eurasians poli-religions was unbloody (not as religion in Olmecs culture). I mean some kind like beliefs of Ancient Greeks, buddhism, hindu, or chineese beliefs, which more were philosophy, not religion in the strict sense.

@Strangerinasland Yep, but Romans did not butchered others religions. They joined gods of other religions to they pantheon. And so - roman Sol means greek Helios & egyptian Ra. As well it worked with barbarians gods. The law were based on philosophy, 'vox populi', or futher - on one emperor, who ruled whole empire.

Religion in ancient world was more like "something what good to have", not as "good reason to exterminate whole nations". Difference is.

Tho there is reason to suspect that, we cannot know. If it had not been christianity, it may have been judaism & that may have been better or worse or about the same. Or it may have been most in Europe, USA, etc fervently fanaticly worship Roman gods & try to base law & government on them. We might have 300 sects differing in exactly what the gods want & how to appease their fragile egos.
