The Marines with the white tape on the helmet are jumping with the unit for the first time since graduating Airborne School. Hence the term "Cherry". This is from 1993 at ie Shima island.

There's Battalion Recon, and then there's Force Recon. MARSOC was formed from Force Recons Direct Action platoons. Allowing the rest of Force Recon to focus primarily on intell. However, Force recon is still capable of DA missions and Recon.

@greenmarine5 I'm not in the Marines, but as far as I know, there are Recon Marines, and then there is Force Recon, which as far as my knowledge goes, Force Recon has been replaced by MARSOC.
