"my son was in kindergarten when the Columbine massacre occurred. That's when I started homeschooling him. "

Teach him how to use a handgun properly and safely, and to take it to school..... he will prevent the next Columbine.

  • @eastariel

Im simply saying taking firearms away from the law abiding wont stop criminals, never has. If you want to stop an illegal market you need to make it non profitable- kill the profit you kill the gangs

  • @CanadianReich The European example wouldn't work. If America were to legalize drugs, by no means should the government have their hands on those drugs. If people insist on continuing with their addictions (which they do already, regardless of laws), then the suppliers will be subject to the free American marketplace. In that way, nobody can put a leash on people's addictions, and people will outmaneuver the drug gangs by breaking the monopoly.

Any monopoly is unhealthy for American freedom.

  • @CanadianReich My main objection to guns comes from the children who have died in the crossfire of the drug wars. And many people arm themselves to the teeth because they're frightened of drug gangs, only to have their guns stolen by those gangs.

Also, my son was in kindergarten when the Columbine massacre occurred. That's when I started homeschooling him. For me, the gun issue is not about freedom vs. control. It's just about the kids and their safety.

  • @CanadianReich So you agree with me? You think we need to legalize drugs? I think if we conduct a massive truth-telling campaign on how ugly drugs can be, then that would help kids to make the right choice. That worked for me when I was a kid. Drugs were readily available in my town, but I just said No. I'd heard plenty of ugly stories about them to scare me away from the stuff.

And how I would love to see the drug dealers lose all their customers almost overnight. Europe has a good idea there.

  • @eastariel

We are not talking hypothetical here, the facts are already out. We know what works and what dosent. Prohabition- ban alcohol- caused dramatic increase in gangs due to the new market for alcohol. Firearms needed to protect alcohol territory.

Do what they do in parts of europe- all drugs of all types are legal and provided by the state- free needles, etc. The state knows who the druggies, teaches that drugs are bad, provides treatment- and there is no market for gangs to survive.

  • @CanadianReich Personally, I think we're avoiding a very big issue here. Brussel sprouts. Kids won't eat them. We need to make them illegal. Add a little old-fashioned teenage rebellion, and we'll not only make them wildly popular, but we'll also be boosting the gun industry, the prison industry, and the funeral industry.

The only way to disarm the drug wars is to pull the rug out from under their business. Make drugs legal and guns illegal to everyone but cops.

    Outrageous, yes; but it'll work.

  • @eastariel

I agree with your control thing- the government needs to do as little as possible for people. Its the peoples job to watch their own damn health, their weight, to exercise....but its also their job to ensure their own safety- dialing 911 is for calling a CSI unit and photographer after the fact.

  • @eastariel

I do agree that ending WARS would be nice, but you need to disarm governments for this, all of them, simutaneously (their military and police). Disarming gangs...good luck, although i wish it were possible.

The main body of people on this planet that should have firearms are the law-abiding God-fearing public, followed by the police, then the military, and lastly criminals and gang bangers. No point in disarming the law abiding unless you can disarm the other groups first.

  • @eastariel

You mean "illegal guns feed and are fed by the drug war", right?

I own all kinds of guns, im not in a gang, I dont sell drugs, and I shoot rabbits, deer, and paper targets.

You cant pass LAWS accomplish your goals my friend, all youll do is disarm the law-abiding which in turn emboldens criminals (see South Africa, Canada, armed US vs unarmed US, Australia, Britain for exaples here) causing violent crime to go UP. Genoicde is also always preceded by civilian disarmament.
