I Got my Start at LCC: Calvin Jones

The Lansing Community College Alumni Association has selected Calvin Jones as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award for 2011. Jones is Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Public Relations, and Organizational Assessment and Training at the Lansing Board of Water & Light where he has worked for the last 34 years.

Jones, a native of Lansing, is also a graduate of Michigan State University's Political Leadership Program and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce Leadership Michigan program. During more than three decades with the Board of Water & Light Jones has held a variety of positions from ranging from General Maintenance Laborer to General Supervisor to Government Relations Manager where he served as a critical link between the Board of Water
& Light, the city of Lansing and local businesses.

Jones wears many volunteer hats while serving on the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education, Capital Area United Way, Impression 5 Science Center, and Junior Achievement to name a few. He established the Kim Jones "Make it Happen" Foundation, and coordinates the Annual Chili Cook-Off, a community favorite which raises thousands of dollars for charity.
