In all these videos, she uses the words "oil" and "soap" interchangeably. I wouldn't want to eat salad at her house!

Also, why, WHY would you want to mix vinegar in with the baking soda? All that does is generate gas & pressure, tending to make a mess as you mix it, and the vinegar (an acid) makes the soap, baking soda, borax (alkali) less effective and vice versa.

@goodmaro I use them interchangeably because Castile Oil is Soap!

@NotaCoolMom No, there's no such thing as "castile oil", and oil is not soap. And vinegar and baking soda are not a great cleaning combo if you mix them, what ever gave you that idea? There are applications in which you might apply baking soda and vinegar serially to produce bubbles, but not premix them. There are applications in which one or the other is good, but not both mixed. And they counteract each other!

I consulted with Jill Schoff on this subject for her book, "Green Up Your Cleanup". I wouldn't steer you wrong.

@NotaCoolMom Disagree?! These are things you could just look up. Castile SOAP is soap; it's MADE FROM oils (originally olive alone), but there's nothing called "castile oil". Soap, baking soda, and borax are alkali, vinegar is an acid; acids and alkali SEPARATELY can be used in cleaning, but together they neutralize each other; just ask anywhere they'll answer simple chemistry questions. Mix baking soda & vinegar only where you want to generate gas & pressure, as in a clogged drain.

@whoisyouis good point, but i think maybe the vinegar and borax dissolve the excess soap. I use vinegar in the rinse cycle of my laundry to make sure all the excess soap is removed. Dr. Bonner's Castille soap is natural too so I think she adds it for an extra punch of cleaning, but maybe it washes off easier than the chemical laden soap, shampoos, and conditioners most people use in the shower. (you can use Dr. Bonner's as body soap and shampoo too.) :0)
