@DrGregDVM Thank you! I will give that a try.

she also experienced a mycotic abortion a couple days ago, my vet said that it was the eye infection that caused it.. but i thought that upper respiratory infections caused that.. can it also be linked to eye infections? just curious... she is spayed now (i did not breed her, she was already pregnant when i rescued her)

@xnumatrix Cats in the wild eat moist packages of meat and fat. Dry food dehydrates cats and concentrated urine can lead to crystals and stones which irritate and block up the urethra in cats. I switched my cats to wet food and give them pieces of meat 2-3x /week. That is a more natural diet.If you feed cooked food, you need to supplement with Taurine or feed raw meat several times per week. Most cats do fine on dry food but I don't trust the high carb, very dry ingredients.

@DrGregDVM My cat is strictly on an all dry food diet and remains thin healthy and active after 12 years. I hope I'm not contributing to any health problems long term for her. We had 2 other cats live to be over 20. I do allow my cat to snack moderately on chicken, ham, tuna very moderately. I am under the understanding that cooked foods should be kept to a minimum because of the cat's inabiltiy to synthesise Taurine and cannot survive on cooked foods. Is my concern unwarranted?

@FATKATKY I feed my kitties chicken, turkey, shrimp, fish, or ham 2-3 times per week. Cats are carnivores and need more healthy meat and fat in the diet. dry food may lead to obesity, urinary blockage, and diabetes. Canned cat food is better than dry food for cats. Thanks for watching!

one of my rescue kitties has an eye infection, she is very difficult to administer the ointment.. i have tried this several times, and always end up getting scratched.. works pretty good for the other cats though that I have rescued. any suggestions for this particular kitty?

@mjaddict86 Hold her by the scruff and let her hang like she would with mama. Then you many be able to apply ointment. She may have a weak immune system and be unable to fight off respiratory viruses like herpes or other worse ones like Felv and FIV. Cats that have trouble with eye infections can be infected or compromised. You could try oral meds too like azithromycin.

@DrGregDVM Thank you for the tip on administering eye ointment on a cat. My cat developed an eye infection after a catfight and the vet prescribed Neomycin/Hydrocortisone ointment, only I was rather dubious on how to administer it myself I found this post extremely helpful. Thanks again.
