if so... where did you learn the facial expression rigs on the characters?

Thanks! I made it over the course of a year and a half between late 2005 and early 2007. And I did use Maya 7.0. The facial work is done with a combination of joint skinning and blend shape morph targets.

Haha, well, yeah. It definitely wasn't easy. It took me quite a while to really get comfortable with the software, and learning animation takes a great deal of patience and dedication. But, I would say it's worth it if you love the craft.
