Thalia came to OMHS from another shelter with her brother Tristan in May of this year. They were both strays at the previous shelter, so we don't have any history on either one.
Thalia is a sweet girl but also a typical hound! She would much prefer a long walk and some time to "follow her nose" rather than play around with toys. Fortunately, she walks very nicely on leash while wearing her sense-ation harness! She will chase a ball but so far is not likely to retrieve it. This is something her new owners can work on with her!
Overall, she is a very easy going girl but does have the potential to be an escape artist. This is a pretty typical hound behaviour, but it will be something her new family needs to monitor and work on in the future. She is very loveable and sweet girl who, once she's had her long walk and sniffs, can be very cuddly.
Thalia does require an adult only home because she does not have any previous experience with children and has demonstrated food bowl resource guarding tendencies. Her food bowl resource guarding tendencies are mild, but she will be sent home with a program to follow so that she can be set up for success in her new home.
Obedience training school is required for Thalia. She must learn a healthy positive leadership relationship with her new family. Obedience school will also provide her with the tools to work on any behavioural issues that may pop up along the way, her food bowl resource guarding tendencies as well as her potential to be an escape artist.
Thalia would certainly benefit from a family who is hound dog experienced and familiar with all their particulars. At the very least, her new family should be familiar and prepared for living with a hound dog.
Living arrangements may be a consideration as she can be quite vocal at times. If you are the right home for Thalia, please ask about her.
