Video 150!
Can you believe it, one hundred and fifty videos! I though it would be good to make a video tribute to some of the older theme park games that I have played over the years, and although there is not enough time to show them all in a ten minute video, I have shown what I consider to be four of the most important to me.
The first game is simply called "Theme Park" This game was released back in 1994; however it was not until 1996 that I actually started playing it. At the time I was using a 486/DX 66 MHz machine with only 4MB of ram, to put that into perspective, my current system has 4GB of ram, over one thousand times that amount! I remember enjoying the experience of being able to design something, and to see it come to life on my computer.
The second game is one that you should all be aware of by now, the original Roller Coaster Tycoon! I remember downloading the demo overnight, and this was in the days when you actually had to dial up to use the internet, and using my 56k modem, it took a while to download. However, after only five minutes of playing the demo, I knew I wanted to play it more, so I went out and bought it the next day. You may have seen my coaster "Nimbus" this was the very first successful coaster that I designed in Roller Coaster Tycoon, and I have re-used it several times.
The third game is an interesting one, it was the follow up to the original Theme Park game, this game was called "Theme Park World" What makes this game interesting is that it introduces features that even RCT3 does not have, such as the ability to "walk" around your park, as if you are a guest, and to see everything from ground level. The game was fun to play for a while, but although it did have fancy graphics, it was not as fun to play as Roller Coaster Tycoon.
That brings us to our forth game, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. I loved this game, especially its scenario editor! It was a feature that we had wanted for years, and I remember designing many scenarios, in fact I think I made more scenarios than roller coasters!
In this video I have re-played every game, so instead of one theme park, in this video you get to see four! Yes I have been quite busy!
I have also played other theme park games, such as Disney's Coaster, Utracoaster, No Limits and Theme park Inc (Sim Coaster in the USA)
You may be surprised by this, but what I said about RCT3 in this video is true, when it was announced, I had decided that I was sick of theme parks, and decided not to buy it! Chris Sawyer was releasing a new version of Transport Tycoon called "Locomotion" around the same time, and at the time I was far more interested in playing that. It was not until 2006 that I finally bought RCT3 in a two-pack with soaked. I remember enjoying the career mode, but I never thought I would be creating parks to show to the world on Youtube!
Well there we have it, a diversion from RCT3 for a while, perhaps this would be a good place to share your memories of those old games?
This is where I would usually say no custom scenery was used, but I don't know if custom scenery was even made for those old games!
Theres actually a cheat in RCT3 that lets you walk around as a peep.
