Federal Agents Target Gun-smuggling Into Mexico

While Mexico has become the focus of the swine influenza A-H1N1 outbreak, the killings carried out by the country's drug trafficking gangs continues to be an urgent problem. Many of the guns used by hit men working for the drug cartels have been traced back to the United States and US officials are trying to crack down on smuggling of weapons into Mexico. But, as VOA's Greg Flakus reports from the border city of El Paso, Texas, the effort may have limited impact on violence in Mexico.

@camau79 The vast % of guns the cartels are using are not even things you can get in the US. The cartels are getting most of their guns from the Mexican Military or illegal international dealers. You don't really think they are going to pay $1000 for a US gun when they can get a fully auto for a fraction of that price elsewhere?

ATF sold the cartels guns with gps in them. They didnt just sell them some old guns they weren't using. Except one occasion, this plan has worked out well.

If the border patrole wants to find guns going to Mexico they should have talked to ATF and asked how many guns were they allowing smugglers to transport today and where the crossing. This whole program is about US gun control by manufactoring an emergency in Mexico and pushing for more gun control in the US. ATF allowed 2500 guns to go to Mexico as agents and gun shops were ordered to do nothing. This is from the Justice Department in DC.

If the numbers are correct and 15000 soldiers have deserted from the armed forces of Mexico then its only a matter of time before Mexico collapses
