  • @nascarfanatic2425 The new points system is one of the few changes NASCAR has done over the last few years that i actually like. But consistency STILL matters. Even with Stewart winning half the chase races he was only able to tie Edwards who had no wins (in the chase). It took all five of those wins to overcome the few bad finishes that Stewart had. So NASCAR still has work to do to reward winning more. Which is how it should be because you are there to WIN the race.

  • @AMIEVIL86 BIG TIME. But yeah, we just witnessed this year that consistency means much less now over the 36 race stretch than it does to win races now, 'cause of how the chase is set up. I think this might be what NASCAR wanted though. 'Cause they were trying to make their sport more and more about winning, and now they might've gotten somewhere. I think though that a 5 point bonus should be awarded to the points leader after the first 26 races before the format is reset.

  • @nascarfanatic2425 I take it that you might be a Jeff Gordon fan? We can only wait and see what will happen next year. Championships get harder and harder to win each year, but Jeff has a good a shot as anyone.

  • @AMIEVIL86 If Jeff Gordon wins it in 2012, that'll be a year shy of that record.

  • @nascarfanatic2425 It does seem odd, but at the time it seemed like the right decision. It did prove that Dale Inman could win the Winston Cup without Richard Petty (1984 with Terry Labonte/Billy Hagan)and that Richard could win races (though only 2) while driving for someone else (MIke Curb). Terry Labonte wouldnt win the Winston Cup again until 1996, the NASCAR record for the longest time between championships.

  • @AMIEVIL86 Oh okay. Kinda weird to believe that Richard Petty would leave his own team.

  • @nascarfanatic2425 I have to correct my last reply. Dale Inman was Richard Petty's crew chief. Dale left Petty Enterprises in 1981 to go be crew chief for Rod Osterlund. Richard DID leave P.E. at the end of 1983. Both Dale and Richard rejoined P.E. in 1986. Sorry my memory isnt as good as it used to be.

  • @AMIEVIL86 Ahh. I see. That's cool. Lemme guess: Dale Inman was Richard's crew chief?
