*****UPDATE 03-04-09****** Jared will be 3 in June & well...seems that my paranoia is once again....right I guess you can say. To an extent...Jared does not talk much at all. He has developed some sensory issues & is perfectly content with playing by himself. He does a lot of block stacking & a lot of putting things in things. He will get so involved with what he's doing that he forgets the world! We do not have a diagnosis as of yet...He is now undergoing speech therapy & will soon be evaluated for speech therapy...We aren't entirely sure whats going on with him...at least I'm not...because my 5 year old was so obvious with his Autism...But...I'm considering another form of Autism...It has been mentioned to me a time or 2 that Jared may very well have Asperger's...which is a milder form of Autism. Thanks everyone for the comments & the opinions & I hope that this video will be useful for other parents.***************

I honestly cant recall if my older 2 were all into spinning tires & stuff like that when they were jared's age. (he is 9 months old) His older brother has Sensory Integration Disorder & Strong possibility of autism. This vid here is mostly for gathering opinions here. I'm rather paranoid about Jared due to the Autism rate in boys & the increased chance that jared may wind up with autism because steven is his brother. A few things too cover the basics with jared. Still has decent amount of eye contact. (unless you're the one holding him then he makes eye contact with everyone BUT you LOL) He is a bit delayed in some of his motor skills. Such as, he doesn't sit up on his own. Slow about rolling over. Which could be because he's a bigger boy. Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I have Autism and he is too young yet to tell.

  • He will be 3 in June & has a pretty significant developmental delay. He's in speech therapy now & soon will be in OT. Not sure if it is autism. There is a lot of other things there. Still don't know for sure what's going on with him.

  • No one will be able to tell if he shows signs of being autistic till hes older. I wouldnt worry to much about it at his age. My son was diagnose at the age of 3. He's now 4 and doing wonderful with his Speech and Occupational Therapy. He's way ahead of children his age and he was placed at the lower end of the spectrum.

  • My son learned his abc's and it only took me running through the alphabet twice and that was right when he turned 3yrs. He also signs, speaks some french and Spanish along with our native language of English. Autism is only a bad thing when the proper steps are not taken to help your children communicate and learn.

  • This video is close to 2 years old now. I have a boy with Autism who turns 5 in a couple of weeks....Steven...He is one of the smartest kids I know...He learns things almost instantly. So yea...I see ya there. He talks nonstop now & yea. Now as far as the boy in this video, my youngest Jared. He'll be 3 in June. He's not talking like he should be. He is in speech therapy & soon will be having an OT evaluation. I suspect Aspegers honestly. Which I don't look at anything on the spectrum as bad

  • I actually only worry 'bout the autism because I want to make sure we can treat him for it as early as possible. Thats my number one thing with Autism. I feel blessed with all of my children...no matter what their needs may be

  • he shows alot of the characteristics of autism, my son also did these things and was diagnosed in july 2009

  • Don't think of it as paranoia one way or the other. Autism is not the end of the world, and many autistic people are gifted. Just treat your child like a healthy, normal person no matter what, and that will increase his chances of being happy and successful.

  • @southernslimmy - How old is the child in this video? I'd agree that he seems delayed, although hard to say the reason: autism or other. Can you comment further about his social interaction? Response to social cues?

One thing is for sure: you are smart to start getting him help ASAP! His brain is forming at a rapid rate, and there is so much you can help this child with RIGHT NOW for success much later on.

  • you could split up the shots..instead of getting all of them at once. Your child might get a fever but its normal. There is really no proof that shots cause autism.

  • I don't know enough to say anything on the diagnosis, but adorable kid nonetheless. My wife and I are thinking of having kids and refusing the MMR shot routine.

  • im 10 and i have autism. its no big deal anymore

  • thats good advice, if my son is interrupted while doing something, i usually get a tantrum.

  • thanks for the advise

  • Lie to the schools? Claim religious reasons-- I don't think you can constitutionally be kept out of enrolling in school for a religious reason. Or else look into homeschooling. Homeschooling/unschooling work very well for some families, especially ones with kids with atypical neurological development. It can really help alleviate social stresses/bullying issues and self lead learning is great for building life skills.

  • my son has pdd, and symptoms started around 18 months. i also have a 1 month old, that i dread when its time for the shots. but school systems here won't let kids enroll without their vaccinations. what can a person do?
