The Apple iPhone "dead strip" problem is shown here. This is an intermittent problem and the dead strip affected my phone in roughly similar dimensions on other areas of the screen.

As this was intermittent - and the repairer couldn't recreate the problem - they required video proof. A real pain and it would be unfortunate if you didn't have a video camera (or good negotiation skills).

The shop and repairer recommend that the phone is powered off and on, soft resetted, restored from default etc, but none of these things fix the problem. Get a replacement phone and hope that the new 3GS frees up this stock.

  • @jaylaahhhh to be honest... My lock button started acting up... so I got mad, and started hitting it against walls (would fix it) then i hit it WAYYY too hard, and it shattered

    and i mean shattered

but i think that the spots are caused by preasure, because i had a few hair line cracks

after i shattered it (whole top is bad) it fixed it

    heres how bad it is

  • hey man im having same exact same problem like you i dont know what to do please help

  • mine is having the same problem... how do i fix it?

  • I had the same problem on my iphone 3g, I dropped it and a quarter inch long section of the screen was completely unresponsive. I fixed this by taking apart the screen, cleaning the digitzer, removing excess dust, etc. However, what I think did the trick is when I reconnected cable "2," the one for the digitizer to the phone. I thought that if I could secure it, it would work. Low and behold I used a tiny square of duct tape to keep it secure after it popped into place and volia, it works!!

  • mine have same problm also...so how u fix it? change the screen can fix it or not?

  • mines is too but at the slider lock.

  • If you don't know how to do that. I can do it for you. check out my video. It would be a very simple process and I'd do it for cheap and get it back to you asap.

    best to you-Leif

  • looks like dry joint on the touch screen socket u need to open it up and get a cotton wool bud dipped in wd40 and clean the contacts to the ribbon. then reconnect it . its good news if its intermittent . its just a matter of all that srewing . but hay its worth it in the end ;-)
