Giant Spider (Golden Orb) building a web

This Golden Orb was building a web the whole morning. It was at Cape Tribulation, North of Queensland Australia. The day before we went on the Great Barrier Reef.

I read at a sanctuary today that this spider could make a web as thick as a pencil. Also it's web has the potential to hold the weight of an army tank.

I am not a fan of spiders, but the detail that the spider puts into the web, and how intercate that it is made is beautiful. Still... that thing would get the bottom of my boot before I try to "compliment" one of those big suckers.

@miguelJette its called VENOMOUS you stooge, and golden orb spiders are venomous, they wouldnt effect people much other than make them feel sick. they have venom similar to a black widow

as a rule of thumb, the bigger the spider the less chance it is poisonous. In this case, it's definitively not poisonous. Still sort of scary to see when you pop out of the public bathroom. :)

I almost walked into a couple webs, each of which had one. needless to say I narrowly escaped doing something out of an Indiana Jones movie
