  • And why on earth did the low RPM horn started? How did you entered autorotation?

  • Field elevation is 5300+ feet so we were about 6000 feet entering the auto during a warm summer day. The thin air takes a little longer to build up the rotor speed. About 20% of the autos done up here send the light on breifly.

  • @jaysk8er Why? No DPE would say a word about it. Horn comes on at 97%. Max range auto in an R-22 is 75 knots at 90%. The horn would be on the whole time you're shooting for max range. Once you're below 500' AGL, per the POH, you should have at least 97% at that point. Give you lots of room for when the RPM's climb during the flare.

  • @dodger202020 Tell that to any DPE and see what he says...

  • @Magpul Get back to me if you're still on here - I am curious as to why a high altitude would cause RPM to be slow to react, rather than the other way around. Perhaps another effect that I'm not considering, but I'd like to know - thanks -

  • 180 auto... terminated with power

  • @Messer262 I know this is a 4 year old comment but still wanted to reply. There is nothing at all wrong with having the horn come on during an auto. I have no problem with that horn being on all the way to the ground (although it *should* go off in the flare due to rising rpms). In fact, if you're going for a max range auto in an R22, the horn WILL be on the whole time.

  • @sandronovecento76 Balls Of Cast Iron!

  • Can you do a tutorial explaining autorotation with respect to aerodynamics on the prop?

  • almost enough time for lunch

  • left pedal, left pedal, left pedal......

  • @Magpul Thumbs up, but I fly at over 5k MSL also and we live in the desert, so summers are hot here also (arizona). But as far as the horn goes, most people get that when you roll off throttle as you enter, rather than rolling off after the collective is 100% down. Good though, just saying the horn is correctable.
