Two journalists (wife and husband team) covered the 2001 Balkan Youth Reconciliation Conference set up by the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, inc. The conference in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (originally King Philip of Macedonia's capital) brought together young people from all over the historical Balkan region with its millenia of strife. Keep in mind that the Kosova crisis in which Serbian dominated Yugoslavia rump republic tried to crush the Albanian speaking Kossovars. And this led to the NATO air war on Serbia. The Yugoslavian Civil Wars between Slovenes, Croats, Bosnians, Serbs 1990-5 was also a recent memory. In addition to the Bulgarian Youth there were those from Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia and Greece. They shot all the psychological interaction workshops including dance, art and trust exercises; along with a few interviews. Somehow they found my ad in the Film Video Arts website. I couldn't get a handle on how to structure it. It needed some kind of frame. Cinema verite would not work here. I asked how possible it was to interview the most important participants. Coincidently they were all in the New York area in July 2001. Only the President resided permanently in area; in White Plains. I recommended them to interview as many as possible. The equipment was rented. With rental package in hand I did lighting, audio and camera for all the interviews in New York. And so I had my frame. Concepts are explained in Part 2 through Storyboards. I edited in the map graphics. Other editors were brought in especially after I was stranded in Staten Island due to 9/11. I had done a large part of the editing on my first exposure to Final Cut Pro 1.2. By November 2001 it reached the stage you see as the producers suspended the project for personal reasons
