Rebekah, 25 months with full trisomy 18.
Rebekah is in Otto Bock Kimba pediatric wheelchair and is playing with a Vtech Learn and Dance Interactive Zoo. This is a great toy for babies and for our special delayed kids who need a little help with fine motor skills! You can find a description of it here: http://www.vtechkids.com/product.cfm/Learn_Dance_Interactive_Zoo/605/

Most kids with trisomy 18 do have significant delays, Rebekah included. However, she is most definitely progressing along a 'normal' developmental path, it is just very slow. :-) She can operate the monkey, spin the spinner, press the toucan, and press the buttons on top. Of course, she didn't demonstrate this all on the video. In fact, she shows her very 2 year old attitude by ignoring Daddy's request to press the buttons. But watch her long enough, and you'll see she understood Daddy quite fine. She just needed to wait until it was 'her idea' to do it. :-) We highly recommend this toy for our trisomy friends!

Trisomy 18 is a condition where there is an extra 18th chromosome. The medical community considers trisomy 18 (Edward's Syndrome) and trisomy 13 (Patau's Syndrome) to be incompatible with life. But doctors don't know everything, and as parents fight for these kids, more and more of them are surviving and thriving. While Rebekah is clearly very delayed, she is most definitely compatible with life, love, and joy! We will never regret giving her the best life we possibly can.
