TICK-TOCK Time is Running Out to STOP Global Warming

Aloha from Hawaii! (Where we would really suffer from more global warming). ☹ This video has been written, filmed, edited, and directed by 15 fourth and fifth grade elementary students of Queen Kaahumanu Elementary in Honolulu. Student actor (movie's father) Macks thought of the catchy title with student director Anthony adding STOP. The students created funky backgrounds with free (open source) TuxPaint and Scratch programs. They chromakeyed the backgrounds with a blue screen and Final Cut Express.

The students met approximately 32 times after-school, for 45 minutes each. Sometimes they also dropped by during their recess and lunch breaks to pitch in. It is a voluntary program, so they are truly donating their time for a better earth. The video team is called ChainjMakers with the motto Linking together to support positive change.

Queen Kaahumanu Elementary is a public school with a large English Language Learner (ELL) and free/reduced lunch population. In the 2007 statistics, 54.8% of our students received free or reduced lunch. In 2007, 27.2% of the students had limited English proficiency.

On March 3rd, after the video's completion, when asked what was the best part about making the video, many of the students said they gained friendships and working as a team... then they mentioned learning the technology stuff. ☺
