In autumn 2009, Androscoggin Bank asked an anthropology class at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, to research Islamic banking practices. The bank will use the students' research findings to craft banking services useful to Lewiston-Auburn's Somali population and other Muslim members of the community. Shariah law forbids Muslims to make use of financial interest or other instances of money begetting money. Bates junior Brittney French of Auburn created this video about the class project.
