What all addictive drugs and behaviors share in common is their ability to release the neurotransmitter dopamine in the reward structures of the brain. See more at pleasureunwoven.com

  • this is wrong weed is a partial dopamine antagonist so it helps you quit drugs by decreasing cravings

  • @lazymatts Interesting comment. I did a PubMed search but couldn't find any evidence that "weed" (I'm assuming you mean delta9-THC) is a DA receptor antagonist. I'm not arguing that it isn't, I just wonder which DA receptors might be involved. There's plenty of evidence that it's a partial agonist. The point of this clip is to show that perturbations of the DA system can trigger problems ...

  • @lazymatts ... I'm not against the use of antagonists or even partial agonists to ameliorate craving, but the claim that "weed helps quit drugs" is rather provocative and would need to be proven in RCTs.

  • @kevintmccauley1965 sorry iv been addressing alot of videos like this and i have become very stressed about the negative information. But I am positive you can find information involving thc's DA antagonist abilities. When i said it help quit I meant it lowers cravings because of its antagonistic effects

  • @lazymatts that would be a very helpful drug to have - I was very excited about rimonibant but then people on it started killing themselves in clinical trials (very unpredictable, this cannabinoid system!). I did find a lot on Pubmed about cannabidiol and its utility as an anti-psychotic. Might be helpful, as you way, as an anti-craving med, too. My guess is there's a ton of useful pharmacotherapeutics in that weed smoke to be teased out!

  • @lazymatts ... and I did find this in a general Google search: reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/m7awe/does_cannabis_increase_dopamine_levels/

  • How about if LSD convinces you to never touch drugs again? How about if Mescaline teaches you to grow up and lose your dependence and attachment to addictive behaviors and thought patterns? What if a heroin addict starts using Ibogaine or Salvia and decides to treat other people as equals?

  • did anyone else just get hungry??

  • @kevintmccauley1965 it says page dose not exist D:

  • @rick4318 this is so wrong pcp and dxm are very psychologically addictive more so than psychedelics or pot but less than cocaine. pcp and dxm are dissociative because of there action on the nmda receptor but saliva and ibogaine are dissociative because of there action on kappa opioid receptors making them non-addictive
