Actually the idea for the song came about when Geri was still in the group. The lyrics and melodies were written and recorded in America whilst on tour (as you saw in the documentary). The premise of the song obviously changed when Geri left and it became about saying goodbye to her. During the reunion, I think the song took on a new meaning for them by saying goodbye to their fans - which is why Geri performed it as well.
