Amir Abdel Malik Ali @ UCI Flagpoles:
Oppressive regimes have an inherent weakness in that they have to be brutal and unjust in imposing their control. The form of imposition strips the victim of their rights, freedoms and the very thing that makes them human. The oppressor must also justify to its own population the brutality of its imposition. In this, the oppressor must prop a system of injustice and still reconcile with its ideals to its population. The strains build on the system and weaken the foundation on which it rests. Apartheid is the very manifestation of an oppressive nation that imposes double standards, injustice and brutality toward a population due to its ethnic and religious differences. The lecture by Amir Abdel Malik will discuss the fate of the oppressive regimes of the past and compare them to the apartheid state of Israel today.
